Education and teaching
Reykjavík City primary schools follow the national curriculum for primary schools, with reference to the Reykjavík City Education Policy. The main objective of the Policy is for all children to grow, develop and feel happy in a democratic society that is based on human rights and respect for the diversity of human life.
Through robust school and recreation activities, children and young people gain education and experience to realize their dreams and have a positive impact on their environment and society.
Curriculum planning
The curriculum structure describes learning content and educational assessment, giving teachers, students and parents an overview of what is covered during instruction.
Educational assessment at Ingunnarskóli
Ingunnarskóli places strong emphasis on ensuring educational assessment is clear, encouraging and instructive, systematically supporting student learning and progress. Students are informed of the competency standards underlying the assessment and are encouraged to participate actively in the assessment process.
Educational assessment takes place consistently throughout the school year and is based on formative learning where regular, specific and constructive feedback helps students understand their own strengths, build confidence and identify next steps in their learning. The goal is for students to use feedback to evaluate their own achievement, deepen their understanding and improve performance responsibly and mindfully.
Formative learning
Formative learning involves providing students with guidance that helps them reach the goals they are working toward. Goals must be well-defined so the child, teacher, and others involved in learning share the same understanding of achievement criteria. In formative learning, students are participants in the assessment process. Feedback is regular, has a clear purpose, is specific, positive and useful, allowing students to use it to assess their own success.
Diverse teaching methods
At Ingunnarskóli, the majority of students follow the same plan, but emphasis is on offering diverse teaching methods that give students the opportunity to learn at their own level. This is done, among other things, by having diverse projects at stations where students can choose tasks according to their ability and interest. Integration of subjects has been an important part of Ingunnarskóli's work from the beginning. Learning is partly organized in so-called themes, based on the goals of the National Curriculum Guide for all subjects that are woven into the thematic work. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and approach tasks with a positive and creative mind.
Mentor
Mentor is an information system for students, parents and school staff. Guardians and students receive a Mentor password. On Mentor, you can access educational assessments, class schedules, school attendance, homework, class rosters, classmates' parents' phone numbers and more. Parents can also schedule meeting times during consultation days. Parents are encouraged to download the Mentor app, and more information is available on the Mentor website: www.mentor.is
Attendance guidelines
The school emphasizes student punctuality. All children aged 6 to 16 must attend school, and parents/guardians are responsible for their enrollment, attendance, and participation.
If attendance issues arise, parents/guardians and the school must respond. To ensure effective responses, Reykjavík's primary schools follow unified guidelines and rules.
Erasmus+
Ingunnarskóli is a member school of Erasmus+
Erasmus+ is the European Union's education program that provides Icelandic schools at all education levels opportunities to participate in diverse projects and international collaboration.
