About Ingunnarskóli

At Ingunnarskóli, the aim is to provide students with the best possible opportunities to develop in a diverse and creative learning environment. The school's guiding light is for students to become independent and creative, active and responsible individuals who can deal with an ever-changing society. They are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning, and we strive for them to see purpose in their work and projects. The motto of Ingunnarskóli is respect- responsibility- kindness

Critical thinking is prioritized

We focus on empowering students in independent work methods and learning to seek information in diverse ways. An important part of school activities is to stimulate independent and critical thinking in as many areas as possible.

Good school spirit

We work systematically to create a safe learning and working environment and a constructive school spirit so that students and staff feel good. The school is open to all, and parents are always welcome to participate in activities or visit. We emphasize that students treat each other and everyone they interact with inside and outside the school with respect.

Working methods

In designing and planning Ingunnarskóli, emphasis was placed on creating a rich learning environment and promoting collaboration, independence, creativity, integration of subjects, and connections with the local community. In developing the working methods that characterize the school's work, emphasis is placed on the work of teacher teams and their autonomy within the limits set by the school's foundation and vision. Consistency in the activities of different teams is ensured through structured discussion and presentation within the school so that teams can support each other and utilize what is considered best in each case.

Diverse teaching methods

At Ingunnarskóli, the majority of students follow the same plan, but emphasis is on offering diverse teaching methods that give students the opportunity to learn at their own level. This is done, among other things, by having diverse projects at stations where students can choose tasks according to their ability and interest. Integration of subjects has been an important part of Ingunnarskóli's work from the beginning. Learning is partly organized in so-called themes, based on the goals of the National Curriculum Guide for all subjects that are woven into the thematic work. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and approach tasks with a positive and creative mind.

Close to nature

Ingunnarskóli is in a new neighborhood on the outskirts of the city, a perfectly pleasant setting surrounded by nature, which is infused in our daily activities and play. Outdoor teaching is incorporated across all subjects. The school participates in the Green Flag project, which emphasizes responsible behavior towards the environment, inside and outside of the school.

Cooperation with the local community

Great emphasis is placed on students knowing their neighborhood, institutions, social organizations, main landmarks, and the history of the area, and that the school works well with the local community. We cooperate with ÍTR for the after-school program and youth center. Árbær Music School and a teacher from the Grafarvogur Brass Band work at the school for both students and the public, both during and outside school hours. The water tanks of Veitur Utilities are a landmark by the school, and one day in the fall is dedicated to work and knowledge related to them.

Meeting student needs

We ensure students receive appropriate education and close cooperation and information exchange between teachers, support services, and guidance counselors is to respond to students' different needs and abilities. We then focus on whether a student needs to train social and communication skills or if special support is needed in a particular area.
