Ingunnarskóli
Working methods
In designing and planning Ingunnarskóli, emphasis was placed on creating a rich learning environment and promoting collaboration, independence, creativity, integration of subjects, and connections with the local community. In developing the working methods that characterize the school's work, emphasis is placed on the work of teacher teams and their autonomy within the limits set by the school's foundation and vision. Consistency in the activities of different teams is ensured through structured discussion and presentation within the school so that teams can support each other and utilize what is considered best in each case.
Raising for Responsibility
At Ingunnarskóli, Raising for Responsibility serves as the guiding principle for all school activities. This is an educational approach centered on core values that aims to foster positive interactions, responsibility, and student self-governance. The focus is on building consensus around shared values and establishing a few clear rules that support safety, well-being, and learning.
Raising for Responsibility is built on the idea that interest and responsibility come from within. Students are encouraged to learn from their mistakes, take responsibility for their behavior, and are given opportunities to make things right. Rather than focusing on punishment, the focus is on how behavior affects others and what choices lead to constructive solutions.
Growth mindset
At Ingunnarskóli, we emphasize a growth mindset, which is built on the belief that everyone can learn, develop, and make progress through practice, perseverance, and support. We encourage students to tackle challenges, learn from mistakes, and view difficulties as opportunities for growth.
Health-promoting primary school
Health-promoting primary schools take a comprehensive approach designed to support better health and well-being.
Health-promoting primary schools aim to support schools in working systematically on health promotion. This involves creating a school environment that promotes mental, physical and social health and well-being of students and staff in cooperation with homes and the local community.
Cooperation with the local community
Great emphasis is placed on students knowing their neighborhood, institutions, social organizations, main landmarks, and the history of the area, and that the school works well with the local community. We cooperate with ÍTR for the after-school program and youth center. Árbær Music School and a teacher from the Grafarvogur Brass Band work at the school for both students and the public, both during and outside school hours. The water tanks of Veitur Utilities are a landmark by the school, and one day in the fall is dedicated to work and knowledge related to them.
Meeting student needs
We ensure students receive appropriate education and close cooperation and information exchange between teachers, support services, and guidance counselors is to respond to students' different needs and abilities. We then focus on whether a student needs to train social and communication skills or if special support is needed in a particular area.
Good school spirit
We work systematically to create a safe learning and working environment and a constructive school spirit so that students and staff feel good. The school welcomes everyone, and parents are encouraged to participate in school activities or drop by for a visit. We emphasize that students treat each other and everyone they interact with inside and outside the school with respect.
